Time for a change..

Now, I don't know about you guys but lately I have been getting a little tired of just showing you recipes and music...sometimes I will slip in something funny or a cute video but my blog has no diversity.  Why didn't I realize this before?!  After thinking this, I've decided I am going to be putting more of my opinion on here.  Relatively, I think I can be funny sometimes so be looking out for news, videos, gossip, etc. including my opinion on things!  I will still be putting recipes on here, since food is always nice, but not as often.

Let's start this new blog out, shall we?

Every morning I go onto Yahoo! and look at their news stories.  Most of them are really random but some are really interesting.  This morning I found this article, http://shine.yahoo.com/event/momentsofmotherhood/how-to-learn-teenage-as-a-second-language-2457014/.  How To Learn Teenage Language.  Take a look.

Now that you are done reading, all I want to say is "Really?!"  We are in the 21st century, I feel like every human being on Earth speaks in this language by now.  Even our parents can text and have a FaceBook page...something must be wrong.  When teens say "Whatever," it has the same meaning of when an adult would say "whatever."  Obviously the word WHATEVER implies back talk.  Uh OH!  Let's not get feisty.
In conclusion, I hope you all understand my view points on this article.  It was not necessary to post this but I guess someone is getting paid for it, right?

Life Included..

Hey guys! First off, I hope everyone had an awesome and lovely Valentine's Day.  Comment and tell me the sweet things your guy did for you :)  Second off, my friend and I just published a book with our favorite quotes that inspire us.  Help us out and see if it interests you at all!

As for my marine, I have not heard from him in a little over a month.  :/ Welcome to deployment, right?  Let's make some food and listen to music!

Today's recipe is Pesto Grilled Cheese Sandwich!

Ingredients

  • 2 slices Italian bread
  • 1 tablespoon softened butter, divided
  • 1 tablespoon prepared pesto sauce, divided
  • 1 slice provolone cheese
  • 2 slices tomato
  • 1 slice American cheese

Directions

  1. Spread one side of a slice of bread with butter, and place it, buttered side down, into a nonstick skillet over medium heat.
  2. Spread the top of the bread slice in the skillet with half the pesto sauce, and place a slice of provolone cheese, the tomato slices, and the slice of American cheese onto the pesto.
  3. Spread remaining pesto sauce on one side of the second slice of bread, and place the bread slice, pesto side down, onto the sandwich. Butter the top side of the sandwich.
  4. Gently fry the sandwich, flipping once, until both sides of the bread are golden brown and the cheese has melted, about 5 minutes per side.

This takes about 15 minutes tops to finish this so have it for a quick dinner or snack even :)

February

So, I've done the math and I have come to the conclusion that once I get through February, time will start flying!  My crew team is going to Austin, Texas for spring training this year so I'm excited for that.  I have so much to look forward to until summer!  Hopefully my morning practices, classes, and homework will keep me in check for these next months to come.

The Thursday Recipe!!

BAKED CHICKEN NUGGETS!
:)

Ingredients

  • 3 skinless, boneless chicken breasts
  • 1 cup Italian seasoned bread crumbs
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 tablespoon dried basil
  • 1/2 cup butter, melted

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).
  2. Cut chicken breasts into 1 1/2-inch sized pieces. In a medium bowl, mix together the bread crumbs, cheese, salt, thyme and basil. Mix well. Put melted butter in a bowl or dish for dipping.
  3. Dip chicken pieces into the melted butter first, then coat with the breadcrumb mixture. Place the well-coated chicken pieces on a lightly greased cookie sheet in a single layer, and bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes.

This should be ready within 40 minutes and it serves 6 people!

Also, the past week my sister and I were walking around downtown and we heard this "one man band" guy.  He's amazing!!!  Look up all his songs on youtube but here's one just because I'm missing my boyfriend :)

Care Packages

I just finished my first care package, which consists of,
shaving gel, razor, deodorant, so much food, my ipod filled with songs that he likes, pictures, and a Valentine's Day card!

Not bad for my first care package, I think!

Today we are making lasagna! YUM!

LASAGNA

  • 1 pound Italian sausage, casings removed
  • 1 pint ricotta cheese
  • 1 egg, lightly beaten
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 8 ounces shredded mozzarella cheese, divided
  • 1 (24 ounce) jar Classico® Tomato and Basil Sauce
  • 12 no-boil lasagna noodles
  • 3/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, cook the sausage until brown and the juices run clear. Drain and set aside.
  3. In a small bowl, combine ricotta, egg, basil, thyme, garlic powder, oregano and half the shredded mozzarella. Mix well, and set aside.
  4. Coat the bottom of a 9x13 baking dish with a little of the spaghetti sauce. Place three noodles in the bottom of the pan, not touching. Spread a layer of the ricotta mixture, a layer of sausage, and a layer of pasta sauce over the noodles. Repeat three more times. Top with the reserved mozzarella and Parmesan. Cover with foil.
  5. Bake in preheated oven 30 minutes, remove foil and bake 15 minutes more, until golden and bubbly.

Sounds so goood before you even make it!

Now for a laugh, look at this youtube video..

One month down,

One month is finally down of this deployment.  I really hope once my spring season starts with crew the rest of it will fly by!
I know I'm not getting married to my marine for a long time since I want to finish college, but I was wondering if anyone's man DIDN'T wear his dress blues on their wedding day?!
Any comments will be welcome :)

GIRL TALK!

Hey girls!  How's everyone's day!?
Last night, I saw Girl Talk (if anyone doesn't know who this is I'll give you a summary) in concert!  He was amazing.  Basically, he is a white, nerdy Engineering Major at Harvard who DJ's on the side.  I think I mentioned him a couple posts back.  The opening band called Penguin Prison was pretty good, too!
I have some pictures :)
My sister!

Needless to say, it was so much fun!! We were in the front row for awhile but everyone was pushing up against each other it was so hard to breathe!

Recipe for today....
CHICKEN FRIED CHICKEN!!!

Ingredients

  • 30 saltine crackers
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons dry potato flakes
  • 1 teaspoon seasoned salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 6 skinless, boneless chicken breast halves

Directions

  1. Place crackers in a large resealable plastic bag; seal bag and crush crackers until they are coarse crumbs. Add flour, potato flakes, seasoned salt, and pepper to bag and mix well.
  2. Beat egg in a shallow dish or bowl; heat oil in a large skillet over medium high heat.
  3. One by one, dredge chicken pieces in egg beat, then place in bag with crumb mixture, seal bag and shake to coat.
  4. Reduce heat to medium and cook coated chicken in skillet for 15 to 20 minutes, turning frequently, until golden brown and juices run clear.

And some Penguin Prison so I can introduce them to you!
